Description

A Van Gogh-inspired poster of a black cat in a garden beneath a swirling starry sky.

The cat sits among tall red, yellow and green grasses, its dark coat streaked with blue and its amber eye turned to the left. Behind it a great blue swirl turns through a sky of glowing stars, with a ringed orange crescent at the top right. VAN GOGH heads the poster above BLACK CAT · STARLIT GARDEN, with a date line and a museum-style caption.

Van Gogh did paint a black cat in a garden. Daubigny's Garden, made at Auvers in 1890, shows the enclosed garden of the painter Charles-François Daubigny, whom he greatly admired. One version, on extended loan to the Kunstmuseum Basel, has a black cat in the foreground towards the left.

The deep blues and golds suit a bedroom, reading corner or child's room, and it makes a sweet gift for anyone with a black cat of their own. See all our Van Gogh posters.
